The other brother was molested in 1986 mainly in a condominium owned by Monsignor Jeffrey Ingham of the Diocese of Raleigh. Ingham later stated “absolutely not” when asked if he knew of the activities taking place in his own condo. He declined to answer any further questions.

Closer To North Carolina

In an unrelated story, two Raleigh brothers accuse Benedictine priest Father Raymond F. Schulte of sexually abusing them beginning in 1984 when Schulte was posted to the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, the main church of the Diocese of Raleigh.

The lawsuit was filed against the Benedictine Order of which Schulte is a member. The Diocese of Raleigh is not named in the Minnesota lawsuit. Schulte was invited to serve in the Raleigh diocese for three years, from 1983 to 1986.

Jeff Anderson, the St. Paul, MN, attorney representing the brothers, said the Benedictine Order knew that Schulte had molested children when they allowed him to relocate to Raleigh in 1983 to be in charge of the Hispanic Ministries program.

The lawsuit states that while Schulte served in Puerto Rico from the mid-70s to the early-80s, and he sexually abused at least three students. When Schulte was re-assigned to Collegeville, MN, at least one of the boys relocated there, and the sexual abuse continued.

Attorney Anderson also stated, “They had good reason to know before he went to North Carolina that he posed a risk of harm.”

The brothers, now ages 37 and 40, served as altar boys at Sacred Heart Cathedral in the 1980s. According to the suit, one of brothers alleges he was molested by Schulte in the mid-80s at multiple locations in North Carolina, Mexico and Minnesota. The other brother was molested in 1986 mainly in a condominium owned by Monsignor Jeffrey Ingham of the Diocese of Raleigh.

Ingham later stated “absolutely not” when asked if he knew of the activities taking place in his own condo. He declined to answer any further questions.
