Announcement of a lawsuit to be filed on Tuesday in Ramsey County District Court against Collegeville, Minnesota-based St. John’s Preparatory School, St, John’s Abbey, the Order of St. Benedict and Father Raymond Francisco Schulte, a minister at the school. The lawsuit stems from the alleged recruiting, grooming and subsequent sexual abuse and exploitation of two minor students (aged 12 and 14) by Father Schulte between 1984 and 1986 in North Carolina and Minnesota. Schulte is also alleged to have sexually abused at least three students when he was assigned to a St. John’s operated boarding school located in Humacao, Puerto Rico. According to published reports Schulte, who was placed on “restriction” due to “credible allegations of sexual misconduct” by St. John ’s authorities, was subsequently taken off the restriction in 2003 by Abbot John Klassen. Currently, Schulte is residing in Rome and acting as a tour guide, lecturer and a fully active Benedictine monk. In addition to Puerto Rico, Minnesota, North Carolina and Rome, Schulte has held positions or represented St. John’s abbey in Mexico and the Bahamas.
