MOLINE — Sacred Heart Church, 1608 13th St., will host a concert by the National Catholic Youth Choir (NCYC) on Friday, June 28, at 7:30 p.m. The concert is part of the choir’s tour of Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota.

“For All the Saints” is the theme for the concert, which will feature works by Benjamin Britten, Maurice Durufle, Gabriel Faure, Richard Proulx, John Rutter, Tomas Luis de Victoria, Carl Jaspers and Don Hernando Franco.

Made up of 35 high school students from 17 states, NCYC is sponsored by Saint John’s University School of Theology-Seminary. The choir meets from June 17 to 24 and June 30 to July 2 on the grounds of Saint John’s Abbey and University in Collegeville, Minn.

NCYC was founded in 2000 by Father Anthony Ruff, OSB, who served as its first director and continues as its chaplain. Its motto, “Spreading the Catholic Faith through Great Music,” was a response to the call of Pope John Paul II for a “new evangelization.”

Axel Theimer is the current conductor.

There is no charge to attend the concert, but a free-will offering will be received to help cover program costs.
