Former Student #1 Remembers Father Dan Ward

Share

I began my education at St. John’s Preparatory School in Collegeville, Minnesota as a ninth grader in the fall of 1970. As a “resident” student, I lived in the dormitory during the school year and went home during the summer. During my time at the Prep School I came to know Fr. Daniel Ward as a teacher, counselor and Deacon at that time.

In the summer of 1974, I visited Collegeville at the insistence of Fr. Ward. Fr. Ward wanted me to attend college at St. John’s University and told me that he would help with the application process.

During my visit, I spent the night in a guest room at the monastery. The night of my stay, Fr. Ward entered the guest room while I was in bed. After some conversation Fr. Ward walked over, sat on the edge of my bed and kissed me on the mouth for an extended and altogether uncomfortable period of time.

Fr. Dan Ward’s actions were unprovoked, unwelcomed and certainly inappropriate. I just froze and wondered where in the world this was all going. Fortunately he got up said good night and left.

I have not shared my story with anyone until today. I decided to come forward with this information in an effort to support other victims of misconduct by Fr. Dan Ward.

[Webmaster’s Note: This victim’s photo was on Father Dan Ward’s dresser when Ward invited another student [ More ] to his bedroom. ]
