Michael,
We have stopped giving to St. John’s because of the ongoing abuse scandal there. I realize that the administration has claimed that everything has been handled but that is not the case.
Despite the claim of transparency the cover-up continues as more news continues to come out about cases that St. John’s new about but did not disclose.
You may have been told differently in order to protect the university and monastery’s finances, including fund drives which you are involved with. My family has been affected directly by this scandal so I have a personal perspective. I urge you to go to the website listed below and simply read the articles within it. Many of which are statements from St. John’s officials, the Abbot and news articles chronicling events of the past 40 or so years. Once you do you will see what I am saying is true.
It is my hope that St. John’s really does become “transparent” about this ongoing scandal and makes itself into a great Catholic university again, but until then we cannot donate any funds.
Sincerely,
