Fr. Anthony Smithwick was a visiting priest, originally from Cockfosters Benedictine Monastery in North London. Smithwick is the fourth visiting clergy with allegations of misconduct. According to one visiting monk who was reprimanded for misconduct, “I came to St. John’s and I saw a lot of people acting out.”
Fr. Smithwick spent two years at St. John’s, leaving in May of 1992.
While at St. John’s, it is believed that Smithwick engaged in sexual misconduct with at least two students.
